 The WaPo posted an interesting piece on the popularity on a SocNet site like Facebook, where the average user posts once every 16 days.  77% of Facebook causes, etc. have less than 1,000 "fans."  On the other end of the range, 297 or less than one-half of one percent, have more than a million fans.

But hey, it's Facebook.  Megan Fox is almost as popular as Barack Obama.

Every candidate, issue, nonprofit and movement needs to have a presence on Facebook err all Social Networks (SocNets).  It is currently the epicenter for online engagement of young(er) voters and a growing niche of older voters.  Add it to your communication's tactics...

Confirmed: Young(er) Vote market Keeps Growing

U.S. Census Bureau confirmed what had already been estimated:

10.8 million young voters participated in the 2006 election, as compared with 8.9 million in 2002, making it the second election in a row where young voters’ increase in turnout outpaced that of any other age bracket.

Young Voters - How to get'em!

Last week I participated in a panel discussion on Young(er) Voters at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's Institute of Politics.  IOP has some interesting data from a recent survey here.

For the first time, in 2004, under 30 voters outnumbered the 65+ crowd. 

Given the continued impact of the War in Iraq, high turnout by this segment is a likely factor in 2008.  While this trend continues, winning means getting a large share of the youth vote!
